A courageous friend died last week. He led many in prayer for healing and believed for his own healing to the end. And yet he was not healed. This fact brought questions and doubts to some around him. My girlfriend called to remind me of a scripture in Hebrews 11 where many heroes of the faith were commended and yet died in their faith still believing. We sometimes question God’s timing of taking a warrior home. In my mind I like to think he finished his race and we know he crossed over to a much better place.
We don’t get to know why but we do get to carry on the baton of our friend’s cause. So often we relate this person’s death to our own and think “Gee, if God took him and he was a good guy, where does that leave me?” Don’t let it leave you with doubts- continue praying for the sick.
Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground it remains a single seed but if it dies it bears much fruit. (John 12:24) We don’t get to understand everything and yet we can honor God and our loved ones by carrying their banner of unwavering faith and continue trying to affect lives as they did. We will miss them. I am inspired by their courage. The work is to believe. The secret things belong to God. I must carry on.
