I was putting on my makeup this morning when I turned to get my hair dryer and a small soap dish was knocked to the ground and shattered. I carefully picked up the pieces as the dish had been on display at my mother\u2019s house and I wasn\u2019t ready to let it go\u2026I felt a strange sentimentality about it. It reminded me of her-a classy woman with Old English tastes. I recall how often she would have classical music playing in the background; she had a joyful outlook, and was full of dignity. I remember how, even when she eventually went to assisted living, she would not attend a meal without a nice outfit and scarf to match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was intelligent with perfect English pronunciation as she had been an English college professor. She was  well travelled and an adult Bible teacher until she was 81. She also retired from running a successful business that year and moved to our DFW area from Houston. I gave her an NIV Bible in 1987. I am still enjoying her notes in pencil which revealed some deep study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went into the bathroom with my super glue and began gluing back the dish, one piece at a time. I found myself going back every 20 minutes or so to glue the next piece as each dried until complete. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mom, you weren\u2019t perfect. We\u2019re all flawed and broken. Your mistakes and losses were tragic at times but you carried on and overcame.You live on in your indomitable spirit and have earned your reward and resting place. Well done! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let this dish continue to remind me of you-broken as we all are but put back together and whole! So glad to have had you as my mommy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
