Healing Part II

Christ_Healing_the_Sick,_1813,_by_Washington_Allston_(1779-1843)_-_Worcester_Art_Museum_-_IMG_7700-1So often we overlook the healing promise of Christ’s atonement.

The atonement of Christ includes the provision of supernatural healing, according to Isaiah 53.This promise is often diminished by those who believe that the redemption of Christ is limited to eternal life. 1 Peter 2:24 restates this for emphasis to New testament believers.

Our healing is a present reality, paid for at the same time as salvation 2000 years ago on the cross.
Healing must be appropriated in the same manner as salvation; through belief, which leads to a change in our thinking and behavior. A failure to realize we are entitled to freedom from disease may lead to tacit acceptance of spiritual attack through disease and sickness. We must reject illness as demonic infringement upon our God-given rights as believers. As mentioned in the previous article, we may be required to persevere and stand in the midst of false symptoms.

What could give our enemies the right to stay? Scripture often equates disobedience with sickness. Psalm 103 pairs forgiveness and healing. Proverbs 4 tells us to keep His word in our hearts to bring health to our bodies. James 5 tells us to confess our sins to each other and the prayer of faith will raise up a sick man. Do you harbor unforgiveness, jealousy, slander? Often we find in praying for the sick that there exists a root of sin causing the illness. When that sin is found and confessed, the sickness lifts. Jesus told the paralytic in Mark 2 that his sins were forgiven and to get up and walk and he did. The origin of illness is not always the result of sin in the afflicted person. Sometimes, we are required to simply assure the individual of the love, grace and mercy of God; that he desires to free us from trouble of all sorts.

My husband had a ruptured disc in his back. The doctor recommended surgery. We asked God how to pray for his healing. We knew repentance was important and we confessed every known and unknown sin to each other. This was a process, because some sins were committed years ago and we hadn’t even shared them with each other. We were determined, however, to conquer this condition, which plagued him. We did this in order to eliminate any entitlement for the enemy to continue to afflict us.
Here are some things we learned in the process; worship and praise usher in God’s presence, which is necessary for healing. We invited the Holy Spirit to come in power to heal, acknowledging the authority we have been given over the enemy and our protection. We confessed our sins to each other before God. We quoted a scripture, as a basis for healing. We asked for healing in Jesus’ name, commanding the infirmity, telling it to be removed! Then we stood and believed it had been accomplished. We speak aloud our healing despite any remaining symptoms. We claim His promises of scripture knowing it is God’s desire to heal and up to Him to do the healing. We are only the instrument He flows through.

Healing is not always instant; sometimes it is a process. Mark 8:24-25 illustrates a time when Jesus prayed for a blind man who first had blurred vision of people who looked like trees. The second time Jesus laid his hands on the man’s eyes his vision cleared perfectly. There are also examples in the Bible where the person prayed for was healed on their way home or from a distance. Be persistent! Healing has already been purchased for us. It is done! We must have faith to activate it.

My husband’s back was completely healed in 72 days saving us over $50,000 in surgery costs alone. My son was healed of epilepsy immediately as he quit taking the medicine and walked in faith. What are you holding on to the hem of Jesus garment about? What do you want Him to do for you? Draw your healing from Him and let your faith make you whole.

 May I pray for you?
 Dear Lord,
Thank You for Your promises of scripture that assure us that Your Son has already accomplished our healing as a finished work. And that You are watching over Your word to perform it. As we activate our faith by believing in Your promises, the complete manifestation of our healing will appear! Help us to speak to our mountains so they can be removed and realize the authority You have given us to hasten the manifestation of our healing! May You get all the glory! In Jesus‘ name! Amen
